RBC has made two new appointments who will be joining the Brass Department in September. Helen Vollam, Principal Trombone for the BBC Symphony Orchestra – the first woman to be appointed to a principal trombone chair in a London orchestra – is the new Visiting Artist in Trombone.

Helen is also a member of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe.

The second appointment is Daniel West who will join RBC as its Bass Trombone Tutor. Dan is the bass trombonist in the acclaimed chamber ensemble Septura and has worked as a versatile freelance musician for all of London’s major orchestras over the years, as well as many leading orchestras around the UK and Europe.

He is a prominent contrabass trombonist and is frequently recorded on both instruments for film and television.

Head of Brass Amos Miller said: "I am absolutely delighted to welcome these two wonderful musicians to our faculty. They are stellar musicians and exceptional teachers, and will be a great inspiration to our students."
