Junior RBC alumnus Christopher Churcher’s debut album Moonrise was named album of the week on BBC Radio 3’s Essential Classics on Monday 11 May. Tracks from the album were broadcasted every morning throughout the week. Listen to Essential Classics here.
Earlier this month, Moonrise was launched at Choral Contemplation at Somerville College, Oxford University, where Christopher is a student. The album brings together compositions written between the ages of 17 and 21 during his time as an undergraduate student. His album is recorded with Somerville College Choir and blends sacred and secular music with a focus on LGBTQ+ identity, reflecting on Christopher’s own experience as a queer composer.
Christopher is rapidly emerging as a distinctive voice in contemporary choral music. During his time at Junior RBC, he won an internal composition prize, with his work performed by a symphony orchestra.
