BMus flautist Lottie Mahoney has been selected as Birmingham Royal Ballet’s (BRB) Student-in-Residence for the 2024 season following a rigorous two-stage audition process.
BRB invited applications for their Student-in-Residence scheme earlier this month. The scheme, now in its third year, offers a student from RBC the opportunity to play in London rehearsals with the Royal Ballet Sinfonia, the orchestra of BRB.
Lottie will also play in all relevant Stage and Orchestra rehearsals in Birmingham throughout this year. She will be mentored by relevant members of the orchestra as well as by Paul Murphy, BRB’s Principal Conductor.
Paul said: “We’re delighted to welcome Lottie as our third RBC Student-in-Residence. I feel sure that she will benefit enormously from rehearsing with the Royal Ballet Sinfonia over the course of 2024 and, in addition, being mentored by our wonderful colleagues in the flute section.”
Lottie said: “I’m extremely grateful to be given the opportunity to play with the Royal Ballet Sinfonia as their Student-in-Residence. As rehearsals for Sleeping Beauty begin, I’m delighted to have the chance to play alongside and learn from members of this terrific orchestra.”
