Former Principal and Emeritus Professor of Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (RBC) Julian Lloyd Webber has been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Professor Lloyd Webber stepped down from the role of Principal in 2020, after five years at the helm of the world-renowned music and acting school.
RBC Interim Principal Dr Shirley Thompson said: “Colleagues at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire are delighted to hear that Julian has been honoured in this way, and we send him many congratulations.”
The former cellist, now an ambassador for music education, recently celebrated his 70th birthday.
Professor Lloyd Webber said: “I am delighted to receive this special honour. I have been blessed to work with so many wonderful musical collaborators and I want to thank each and every one of them for making this Award possible.”
