Newbury Spring Festival has announced MMus student Emanuil Ivanov as the winner of the Kindersley Prize at Sheepdrove Piano Competition 2023.
Alongside the £3000 prize money, Emanuil won the chance to give a recital on Monday 15 May at Newbury Corn Exchange, as part of Newbury Spring Festival’s popular Young Artist Recital series.
He also won the Audience Prize of £250, which was donated anonymously.
This year’s judges were: Former Managing Director Philharmonia Orchestra David Whelton, British pianist and professor at Guildhall School of Music and Drama Lucy Parham, and Ukranian pianist and 2013 Sheepdrove Competition winner Dinara Klinton, among others.
Last year, Emanuil received the honorary Musicians’ Company Silver Medal and later that year became a recipient of the prestigious Carnwath Piano Scholarship.
Festival Director Mark Eynon said: “Once again the Sheepdrove Piano Competition has showcased the extraordinary talent from the British conservatoires. It has been a privilege to welcome them all to the Festival, and this year’s winner Emanuil Ivanov is destined for a great career. I am incredibly grateful to the Sheepdrove Trust for their generous support of the competition, now in its 14th year.”
