A new comedy series written by and starring alumni from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (RBC) is currently being aired on Channel 4.
Six-part series ‘Big Mood’, written by Acting alumna Camilla Whitehill and starring fellow alumna and friend Nicola Coughlan alongside Lydia West, tells the story of Maggie and Eddie, who have been best friends for a decade, but are discovering if their friendship can survive in a landscape of increased work, life and mental health pressures.
The Guardian praised the show, saying the “laugh-out-loud comedy should be shown to all new TV writers.”
Camilla graduated from RBC in 2012, and has since written and created several plays, written for the comedy series ‘Porters’ and worked with Nicola on the comedy podcast ‘Whistle Through the Shamrocks’.
Nicola’s breakthrough role was in the Channel 4 comedy 'Derry Girls', where she played the role of Claire Devlin. In 2023, she even made a brief appearance as Diplomat Barbie in Greta Gerwig’s hit film 'Barbie'. She is best known for her role as Penelope Featherington in Netflix’s popular period drama 'Bridgerton', with series three landing on the streaming service this summer.
‘Big Mood’ began on Channel 4 on Friday 28 March. Catch up on previous episodes here.
