Alumna to perform with London Symphony Orchestra

Composition graduate Emily Abdy will be performing with the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) as part of Nonclassical’s 20th Anniversary concert, Nonclassical at 20: NONCLAXXICAL on Saturday 26 October at Hackney Empire.

The concert includes five world premieres and one UK premiere, showcasing 12 contemporary works from emerging and established composers. Emily will premiere her new piece, ‘Not Getting Any’ with the LSO.

The line-up for the evening includes the ‘Concerto for Drum Machine and Orchestra’ celebrating the Roland 808 drum machine, and features composers such as Nonclassical founder Gabriel Prokofiev, Tansy Davies, Laurence Osborn, Max De Warner, Josephine Stephenson, Beni Giles, Beatrice Dillon, Sasha Scott and more.

The event marks the 20th anniversary of Nonclassical, which is a music promoter, record label and events producer presenting the new classical, experimental and electronic music.

Nonclassical was originally founded in 2004 for as a club night by composer Gabriel Prokofiev, focused on showcasing new music in untraditional performance spaces.

The anniversary concert alongside the London Symphony Orchestra will explore the future of classical music at Hackney Empire.

Emily reflected: “I’m excited to be presented among a line-up of such prominent and innovative creatives, with such a prestigious ensemble as the LSO. The event will be truly pioneering for the contemporary classical scene.

She added: “I want to take my performing ability to the next level – I can’t wait.”
