Final-year BMus French Horn student Alex Hocknull has won the Biddy Baxter and John Hosier Music Trust Award 2023 of £10,000.

The Trust supports the education and professional training of young musicians from music conservatoires of the UK and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, who wish to continue their studies at post-diploma and postgraduate level.

Alex is currently in the final year of his undergraduate degree and plans to study for a Postgraduate Certificate in Instrument Performance at RBC in September.

Head of Brass Amos Miller said: “I’m delighted that Alex has been awarded this exceptionally prestigious scholarship, selected from all the UK conservatoires. He is a wonderful horn player, and this will be an immense support during his postgraduate studies at RBC.”

RBC Interim Principal Shirley Thompson added: “RBC makes annual nominations for this award, and it is testament to the strength of Alex’s application, detailing both his significant achievements to date and his plans for the future, that he has been successful. We are very pleased for him and delighted that he will be remaining with us at RBC next year.”
