Sally Harrop

Sally studied music at the Birmingham Conservatoire with Janet Hilton, John Fuest and Colin Parr.

As BBC Radio 2 Young Musician of the Year 1991, she has broadcast on Radio 2 on several occasions as soloist with the BBC Concert Orchestra, including a concert at the Royal Festival Hall, London. Sally has since then made several recording sessions for Radio 2.  

In 1991 she was awarded the Worshipful Company of Musicians Silver Medal. She has had the privilege of meeting Joseph Horovitz in a master class at his request after hearing her broadcast of his Sonatina for Clarinet and Piano.

She has enjoyed performing a number of concertos and made her Symphony Hall debut with a performance of Copland’s Clarinet Concerto, conducted by Simon Rattle.

An active chamber music career is combined with orchestra concerts. Sally plays principal clarinet with Orchestra of the Swan, Birmingham Opera Company, and Mid Wales Opera, she also plays with Opera North and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
