Matthew White has quickly developed into one of the world’s leading virtuoso euphonium performers.
His talent as a musician saw him a%end Chetham’s School of Music from the age of 10, where he not only studied euphonium, but also piano and trombone alongside some of the finest young musicians from all over the world.
As a teenager, he was a member of the Na=onal Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, serving as Principal Euphonium for three years, and winning the ‘Harry Mortimer’ and ‘Katie Ogden’ solo awards on several occasions.
In 2010 he announced his arrival as a world class solo performer by becoming the BBC Radio 2 ‘Young Brass Soloist of the Year’, as well as the Black Dyke ‘Young Artist of the Year’, and the winner of the prestigious soloist prize at the Brass in Concert Championship.
Matthew completed his studies in 2012 with a first class honours degree from the Royal Northern College of Music, as well as being awarded the Harry Mortimer Memorial Trust award as ‘Brass Student of the Year’.
Since then he has performed as a soloist at many of the UK’s leading concert venues, including Bridgewater Hall, St David’s Hall, Symphony Hall and the Royal Festival Hall and has also been a featured soloist on a BBC ‘Friday Night is Music Night’ radio broadcast, accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra.
His brass band achievements include National and European Championship titles during his time with the World Famous Cory Band.
The Besson Musical Instruments Performing Artist is now a highly respected freelance soloist, teacher and educator, holding teaching positions in Northampton and also at the prestigious Birmingham Conservatoire. He also performs as Principal Euphonium with Welsh Champions, Tredegar Town Band.
