Martin Perkins started his undergraduate studies at Birmingham Conservatoire in 1993 where he studied composition and French Horn. However, his interest in Early Music soon led him to the harpsichord and, after studies with Lucy Carolan, he graduated with an MA in 1998. For his MPhil, at the University of Birmingham, he studied the instrumental works of Giovanni Battista Vitali, and more recently, he completed his PhD thesis, Music in Country Houses of the English Midlands, 1750-1810. As a harpsichordist and continuo player Martin is active in the Midlands and London performing with many different groups. He was Director of Music at Leicester University until 2006, where he directed University and professional choirs, orchestras and ensembles.
