Lucy Nolan
Viola Tutor & Chamber Music Coach
Royal Birmingham Conservatoire
Dublin-born Lucy hails from a musical family - her four siblings are all professional musicians - and began playing the viola at the age of eleven. In 2004 she moved to Manchester to study at the Royal Northern College of Music, graduating with a Bachelor Degree with First Class Honours, a Master Degree in Solo Performance with Distinction and an International Artist Diploma in Orchestral String Leadership, completed in conjunction with the Hallé. Her teachers have included Simon Aspell of the Vanbrugh Quartet, the late Roger Bigley, and Louise Lansdown.
Chamber music has always been a huge part of Lucy's life and she has been performing in various ensembles since a young age. She has been a member of the award winning Eblana String Trio since its formation in 2006 and performs frequently with the trio across Britain and further afield.
The members of the trio were Junior Fellows of Chamber Music at Birmingham Conservatoire from 2013 to 2015. Lucy is fortunate to have had chamber music tuition and masterclasses from many distinguished musicians including the late Dr Hugh Maguire and Mstislav Rostropovich, Dora Schwartzberg, Gabor Takacs Nagy and many others. Lucy has collaborated in chamber music projects with artists including Catrin Finch, Marcia Crayford, Moray Welsh, Thomas Riebl and composers Kalevi Aho and Colin Matthews.
