Dr Gareth Thomas is a full-time lecturer at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. He completed his BMus and MA degrees at Cardiff University before moving to the University of Birmingham to complete his PhD on ‘The impact of Russian music in Britain 1893-1929’.
He has been part of the teaching staff at RBC since 2001. His interests lie in 19th- and 20th-century music, in particular British and Russian music, and in the cultural politics of music. He is currently supervising PhD projects on Alexei Stanchinsky and Olivier Messiaen. Outside of teaching Gareth enjoys choral singing with the Birmingham Bach Choir and is a keen cyclist.
