Join us for an unforgettable afternoon of music celebrating friendship, education and cultural exchange, as the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire welcomes outstanding young musicians and educators from the United Kingdom, China and Vietnam.
Part of the 2026 China–UK Cultural Exchange Programme, this special gala brings together over 200 performers in a vibrant celebration of international collaboration, showcasing the next generation of musical talent alongside distinguished artists and educators.
The programme opens with the colourful traditions of southern China through dance and Cantonese Opera, followed by A Musical Welcome from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, featuring English music spanning more than 700 years—from the medieval Sumer Is Icumen In to John Dowland and traditional English folk song.
The afternoon continues with a showcase of Vietnamese folk music, a performance by the Nanjing Teachers' Delegation, and one of China's finest children's choirs before the interval.
The second half features the Xi'an Tie Yi Youth Symphony Orchestra, performing a programme that bridges Eastern and Western musical traditions, including Handel's Water Music, Guan Xia's Symphonic Overture No.1, Vaughan Williams' beloved Fantasia on Greensleeves, Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance, and a joyful finale of Auld Lang Syne.
Before the concert, we will also celebrate exceptional contributions to music education with a special awards presentation honouring internationally respected conductor Maestro Bian Zushan, recognising a lifetime dedicated to inspiring young musicians.
This unique event brings together young performers, teachers, school leaders and audiences from three countries, demonstrating the power of music to build lasting friendships and international understanding.
Free admission for under-18s. Booking is essential.
