RBC’s annual prize-giving on Friday 27 June shone a spotlight on Music and Acting achievement. The annual event, which recognises and celebrates student and alumni success, as well as distinguished honorary award recipients took place in a packed Bradshaw Hall.
Every year RBC confers honorary awards to individuals who have provided outstanding service to the Conservatoire or distinction in the music and acting profession. The honorary awards fall into two categories: Honorary Fellowships and Honorary Memberships.
Honorary Fellowships
These awards honour musicians and professionals from the world of theatre, screen or broadcast and to graduates or individuals who have made a significant contribution to the work and life of RBC through professional or voluntary work.
This year titles were conferred to:
- Helen Beecroft
- Tom Hammond-Davies
- Deborah Tracey.
Honorary Memberships are awarded to graduates who have achieved notable success in their chosen areas of the profession soon after graduation. This year, the following alumni received titles:
- Anton Clarke-Butler
- Dr Ryan Latimer
- Emily Levy
- Rosie Tunley
- Lindsay Wright.
In addition to Honorary Fellowships and Memberships, student award winners were presented with prizes and congratulated by our Principal Stephen Maddock.
Two new prizes were launched this year for RBC Acting Production:
- Best Undergraduate Theatre Production of the Year – PIAF by Pam Gems, which was directed by Stephen Simms
- Best Postgraduate Theatre Production of the Year – Rapture by Joanna Murray-Smith, which was directed by Emily Raymond.
The Principal’s Prizes recognised the following achievements:
- Outstanding contribution to the life of the Conservatoire – Music: Ellie Bagshaw and Andrey Fjeldstad
- Outstanding contribution to the life of the Conservatoire – Acting: Amber Clifton and Aimie Smith.
At the end of the awards ceremony, a Class of 2025 photograph was taken and the RBC Symphony Orchestra performed at 7pm.
Principal Stephen Maddock said: “This year’s reimagined RBC Awards ceremony was a joyful celebration of the high achievements and hard work of our Music and Acting students over the last nine months. We enjoyed two live performances, and I was especially pleased to be able to present Honorary Memberships to five recent alumni, and Honorary Fellowships to three further alumni – Helen Beecroft, Tom Hammond-Davies and Deborah Tracey – who have gone on to highly successful careers in the arts.”
