Jeanette Wong

Colleagues, students and friends,

This week we send our best wishes and thanks to Jeanette Chuin-Chieh Wong who has served as RBC’s Overseas Representative in Singapore and Malaysia since 2008.

Born in Kuala Lumpur, Jeanette obtained her First-Class degree in 2000 and Master’s with Distinction in 2001 under the tutelage of Malcom Wilson at the Conservatoire.

During her early career, Jeanette began helping RBC to develop an international profile in Southeast Asia, serving as RBC’s overseas representative in Singapore and Malaysia between 2008 and 2023.

Over the years, Jeanette has liaised with hundreds of young musicians in the region, providing advice and guidance, hosting in-person auditions, and supporting offer holders through to enrolment.

During this time, Jeanette also worked closely with RBC senior management to help develop links with key music education institutions in Singapore and Malaysia, connecting RBC to institutions such as Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music and Sunway University. Jeanette has worked with alumni in recent years to host RBC Alumni Gala Concerts to raise funds to support RBC students from Singapore and Malaysia facing financial hardship during their studies.

Jeanette has played an important and invaluable role in helping RBC to develop a strong profile in Southeast Asia. As Jeanette steps down from her role, we wish her all the very best in her new role as Head of Piano at Birmingham Royal Ballet.

Professor Lamberto Coccioli said: “It’s been an absolute pleasure working with Jeanette over the years. Her generosity of spirit and genuine commitment to the success of our applicants, students and alumni has made all the difference in growing our reputation in Southeast Asia. Jeanette is also a great travel companion, always reliable and good fun to be with! I have very fond memories of all our trips to the region.”
