Hear from Head of Development at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (RBC) Terry Gibson, who joined Birmingham City University in June, and is excited to work for a world-class Conservatoire and connect philanthropists with students.
I am based… at RBC, on City Centre Campus.
I joined BCU because… I’m excited to work for a world-class Conservatoire and connect philanthropists with incredible students.
My role involves… charity fundraising, so I’ll be working with charitable trusts, and corporate and individual philanthropists to encourage charitable donations that support students.
I bring to BCU… I’m a skilled relationship manager, working with existing and prospective donors to match their passions to the needs of the organisation. I have a track record of sizeable annual philanthropy, working with donors to contribute £1 or £1 million.
I’ve got strong written skills, which helps with charitable trust applications, and I’m a highly experienced event organiser, having planned and delivered corporate, supporter and hospitality events on a variety of scales in locations including the House of Lords and the Coliseum Theatre.
Prior to BCU, I… was a charity fundraiser at the University of Wolverhampton. This led to me being Head of Alumni and Development, overseeing the Alumni, Events and Fundraising Teams in supporting a variety of projects across the University. Prior to this, I was Individual Giving Manager at Birmingham Royal Ballet, where I fundraised for pointe shoes, tutus, dancer welfare and the creation of new work.
A random fact about myself is… I’m a huge comic book nerd, with more than 1,000 comics in boxes all over my house.
