More than £10,000 has been raised since RBC launched its Junior Conservatoire fundraising box office appeal in August 2024. The funds raised will place instruments in the hands of a dozen aspiring young musicians from across the West Midlands.
As a result of this fundraising activity, young people who are at the beginning of their musical journey will have the instruments to explore and develop new skills, regardless of their financial circumstances.
Following the success of this appeal, a new scholarship fund will be launched in New Year 2026 as RBC continues to support talented students who face financial barriers to their undergraduate studies.
In a similar vein, visitors to RBC will be able to contribute to the scholarship fund and help students to access world-class training, achieve their aspirations and inspire audiences through their performances.
Head and Associate Head of Junior RBC Tim English and Luan Shaw commented: “We are incredibly grateful for your generous support this year, and we’re excited to begin working with children and young people from a broad range of musical backgrounds.
“In September, we will be launching a new Primary Winds Programme for young woodwind players aged 8-11 years old. The programme will run on Saturdays and provide opportunities for complete beginners, and those who’ve already passed grade one or two. Participants can choose to learn flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon or saxophone while also participating in recorder club, woodwind ensemble and other creative activities designed to develop their all-round musicianship.
“Thanks to you, young players can borrow a Junior RBC instrument for one year, saving them and their family hundreds of pounds. And with bursary support on offer to contribute towards tuition fees, learning an instrument is possible for children, regardless of their financial circumstances.”
