Postgraduate Certificate in Music (PgCert) clarinet student Melia Lovegrove (left) and recent MMus bassoon graduate Emma Crooks (right) have found industry success recently, working with The National Youth Orchestra (NYO) and Birmingham Royal Ballet (BRB) respectively.

Melia, who graduated with a first-class BMus degree in July, worked with the NYO Inspire Team over the summer as its Residency Assistant.

Melia’s role involved supporting the preparation and delivery of Inspire Orchestra’s national schools tour. Following this, she was offered a permanent position as Inspire Coordinator.

Emma also graduated in July with a Distinction. Since graduating, Emma has secured the role of Assistant Orchestra Manager with BRB.

Emma was introduced to BRB’s Music Director Paul Murphy, following her final-year undergraduate project in orchestral management. Since then, Emma has worked with BRB as a Music Assistant alongside studying for her MMus, before being offered the permanent position she holds now.

Melia commented: “I am proud and excited to support NYO Inspire’s commitment of opening up orchestral music to young people across the country.”

Emma reflected: “I feel incredibly fortunate to continue working with BRB and the Royal Ballet Sinfonia. I am truly grateful to have such an amazing opportunity so early in my career. I would like to thank the staff at RBC for their guidance and encouragement, which has been instrumental in helping me reach this stage.”

Head of Woodwind Jenni Phillips added: “I am delighted for Emma and Melia; their talent and hard work has been acknowledged in the offer of these prestigious jobs. Congratulations to them both, the Woodwind Department is proud!”
