University News Last updated 17 October

A dozen Junior RBC students and alumni have been successful in securing places in the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) Youth Orchestra.
Through these places, the young musicians will develop their orchestral craft by working in collaboration with CBSO musicians and top conductors. They will also receive dedicated sectionals – where the orchestra is split by section to rehearse – with professional musicians to advance and develop their skills.
The first course, conducted by Joshua Weilerstein, takes place at the end of October and will be run as a side-by-side project with approximately 25 members of the CBSO embedded in the orchestra.

Junior RBC offers young musicians between the ages of eight and 18 with exceptional potential, specialist training where they are trained to a level where they could gain a place at a senior conservatoire or music college.
Head of Junior RBC Tim English said: “This is a great tribute to the talent and hard work of students and staff. These opportunities for our young musicians enable them to work with internationally renowned conductors while being coached by members of the orchestra.”
