Visiting Lecturer in Composition Dr Bobbie-Jane Gardner has been shortlisted to represent Britain at the annual International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) World New Music Days Festival 2024. The festival will take place in the Faroe Islands, from 23 – 30 June 2024.

The ISCM is an international network of members from some 50 countries, who are devoted to the promotion and presentation of new and contemporary music. One composer from each member country will have the opportunity to attend the festival and have their work performed in Tórshavn in the Faroe Islands next year.

Dr Gardner’s work ‘True Self’ was selected by the Associate Members’ Panel from around 100 applications.

Dr Gardner said: “I’m delighted to be shortlisted for the British section of ISCM. I’m very grateful to the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra for the commission and their wonderful players. I also want to express gratitude to my RBC students and Geoff Hannan who gave me private lessons during the pandemic – to whom the piece is dedicated. They have all kept me on my toes and impacted my growth as a composer.”
