Former Principal and Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Association (RBCA) Honorary Member Professor Kit Thompson OBE has been inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
The founding Principal’s induction took place recently in a ceremony held in Memorial Hall at Harvard University.
Professor Thompson has built a career as a musician and educator, actively promoting arts and culture across the globe. His honours include being appointed the inaugural Master of the Moon Chun Memorial College at the University of Macau and being awarded Knight of the National Order of Legion of Honour for his contribution to French music, arts and culture.
The induction to the American Academy of Arts and sciences further recognises and celebrates his contribution to arts and sciences.
The American Academy of Arts and Sciences also has a research centre addressing challenges from arts and education to global affairs and technology.
Professor Thompson reflected on his induction: “If anybody had told me when I was a Conservatoire student that I would be inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences at Harvard in the same class as George Clooney, I would have laughed politely but disbelievingly.”
He added: "Dream big and make the most of every opportunity as who knows where it will lead."
