A group of BA (Hons) Acting graduates are taking centre stage at Camden Fringe with their original play Spare Room – a gripping dark comedy exploring gender politics, consent and addiction.
The graduates, performing as Blue Duck Theatre Company, will present the play at the Hens & Chicken Theatre in Islington. Founded in 2024 by 14 RBC alumni, the company is dedicated to reviving classics and exposing societal taboos through theatre.
Spare Room, written by company co-founders and RBC graduates Georgina Housby and Sam Dinnage, uses a naturalistic lens and sharp humour to navigate difficult conversations and expose uncomfortable truths.
The production follows the company’s sold-out reinterpretation of As You Like It, which premiered at Midlands Art Centre late last year to strong acclaim.
Spare Room is being performed during the opening week of the Camden Fringe, which runs from Monday 28 July – Sunday 24 August. Tickets can be purchased by visiting The Camden Fringe website.
Georgina Housby said: “Sam and I wrote Spare Room with the hope of educating people on consent and toxic masculinity, bringing our gender-specific experiences to light.
“We truly believe this is an incredibly important play and would love to reach as wide an audience as possible in the hopes we can provoke change.”
