Nikolaj Henriques

Nikolaj Henriques is Section Leader Bassoon of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. 

Nikolaj did his BA in Music at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, studying with Audun Halvorsen and Sebastian Stevenson. He then moved to Germany to continue his education at Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts with professor Ole Kristian Dahl.

From 2015-2018 Nikolaj worked with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra as second bassoon. During that time he also took part in the Academy of Chamber Orchestra of Europe, and was on the scheme with the Budapest Festival Orchestra under Ivan Fisher. 

As guest Principal, Nikolaj has played with NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, Hallè Orchestra, Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Turku Philharmonic (Finland), Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, Copenhagen Philharmonic, Danish National Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed as a soloist with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the European Union Youth Orchestra. 

Nikolaj is passionate about his teaching at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. He focuses on developing strong fundamental basics combined with great freedom in musical approach. He has also given masterclasses at the Royal Academy of Music and Royal Northern College of Music. 

Nikolaj plays a 16-thousand Heckel with a cc1 bocal.
