Interior Architecture and Design - BA (Hons)
GIVE US A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF YOUR PROJECT
Planet Shift tackles climate change and sustainability through creating an immersive bar and restaurant experience. The project focuses on highlighting the ways in which the UK will be affected by flooding as a result of climate change. This was chosen as the main focus as it allows the user of the space to relate more to the project and realise the damage they are causing for them, their families and future generations. The aim being that they change their way of living to a more sustainable one and show that sustainability is possible without compromising on luxury.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS CONCEPT?
The project took inspiration from my previously written design manifesto which focuses on the power we have as designers to change the world through our designs and influence more sustainable living. Therefore, designers should now be focused on prioritising sustainable designs to change the perception on sustainability. Sustainable Luxury is something I am particularly passionate about changing the meaning of, this being that luxury can't be sustainable without compromising on luxury elements and this therefore was the main driver behind the design.
WHAT PROCESSES HAVE YOU BEEN USING?
A range of processes have been used such as concept development, sketching and space forming as well as software processes such as AutoCAD, Rhino and Photoshop.
WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACHIEVE WITH YOUR PROJECT?
I aim to encourage other designers to start to design with sustainability at the forefront of their designs. Changing the perception of sustainability and how designs can be successfully made to benefit both the user and the environment.
HOW HAS YOUR COURSE HELPED YOU TO PREPARE FOR WORKING ON YOUR PROJECT?
Over the three years i have studied Interior Architecture and Design, the course has helped me develop transferable skills on key software's to produce high quality work both visually and technically. Not only this, but the course has various exhibitions throughout the years which has helped me prepare for my final project.
