Interior Architecture and Design - BA (Hons)
GIVE US A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF YOUR PROJECT
Little Einstein’s is a Montessori inspired education hub created for children aged 4-8 in response to the effects of COVID-19 on the early years education setting. This hub acts as support for children attending schools local to the site (The Ladbrooke House) that were affected socially, academically and emotionally as well as support for parents. Each space is created to inspire children to learn their own way and figure out what is comfortable for them. The 4 main spaces are The Play Space, The Experiment Area, The Maker Space and The Quiet Area.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS CONCEPT?
I chose this concept as I am typically drawn to design ideas that create solutions for the community. I can also say being a mother inspired me as I wanted to design a space that I would imagine my child to thrive in and would provide the support needed post-pandemic.
WHAT PROCESSES HAVE YOU BEEN USING?
The processes I used was gaining inspiration from things other than interior based designs. In this instance, I drew inspiration from the story and the movie ‘Inside Out’ which follows the emotions of a little girl and this inspired me to create a space that supports children’s emotional needs. I also did extensive research on the site and the concept, iterative designing, model taste making and sketching to create my project.
WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACHIEVE WITH YOUR PROJECT?
With this project being my last, I wanted to create something that I would enjoy the process of and the outcome. I wanted to use this project as a display of my design capabilities and skills and shine a light on the design sectors that I enjoy.
HOW HAS YOUR COURSE HELPED YOU TO PREPARE FOR WORKING ON YOUR PROJECT?
My course leaders provided one on one support through out the duration of my project, providing useful feedback and guidance. They also provided workshops that were designed to inspire creativity and give insight on where my project could go and encouraged peer support.
