Kyle is an experimental psychologist with a primary focus on the role of health-related cognitions and biases in the appraisal of (pro and anti) health messages, produced by alcohol companies and the government respectively. He is also interested in the health inequalities generated by these messages.
He completed a PhD at Sheffield Hallam University (April 2012) assessing how graphic cigarette warnings influence smokers on a non-conscious level. He then spent 18 months working at the University of Liverpool as a Research Associate. In this position he assessed the role of alcohol related cues (i.e. brand labelling and alcohol related contexts) and value on both the choice and consumption of alcohol. Following this, Kyle worked for the Behaviour and Health Research Unit (BHRU) within the University of Cambridge from November 2012 in order to assess the role of alcohol marketing and sponsorship on implicit cognitions and consumption.
After a brief period lecturing at the University of Derby from February to September (2013), Kyle joined Birmingham City University as a permanent lecturer in applied psychology.
