A poet from Birmingham City University has received an award for producing this year’s best scholarly book in the field of English studies by an early-career academic.
Dr Gregory Leadbetter, Director of the Institute of Creative and Critical Writing in Birmingham City University’s School of English, received the £200 prize on Saturday 1 December from The Council for College and University English (CCUE) for his book entitled ‘Coleridge and the Daemonic Imagination’.
CCUE is the main professional organisation for English lecturers in universities and colleges across the UK, which aims to promote the study of English in higher education and provide opportunities for English lecturers to meet colleagues from other institutions to meet and discuss shared ideas.
In ‘Coleridge and the Daemonic Imagination’, Dr Leadbetter presents a major new interpretation of the work of English poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
On receiving the prize, Dr Leadbetter said: “I’m honoured and delighted that ‘Coleridge and the Daemonic Imagination’ has been awarded the CCUE Book Prize 2012 - and I hope it encourages others to explore the wonders of Coleridge’s writing.”
