The Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) has carried the notice interest for the procurement of a main contractor.

University leads the way in reducing construction waste

WRAPBirmingham City University is one of the first universities in the country to commit to reducing the amount of construction waste it sends to landfill.

The University's City Centre Campus Project has signed up to the WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) Halving Waste to Landfill voluntary agreement. This means that the organisers of the project will set targets to reduce the amount of construction, demolition and excavation waste sent to landfill by 2012.

Site reveals prehistoric secrets

Archaeological findsExperts have revealed that prehistoric man was once roaming around the site where the Univerity plans to build its city centre campus. An excavation project unearthed two stone flint blades, possibly dropped by hunters 9,000 years ago.

The scientists carried out excavations and an environmental survey in the area between Park Street Gardens, Bartholomew Street and New Canal Street, the site of the new campus.
