All of our staff are practising artists, designers and writers, ensuring you will receive access to the latest thinking, activity and professional networks.


Stuart Whipps

Stuart is an expert in commercial architectural photography and works closely with galleries and artists to produce installation photography for a variety of publications.

He has exhibited in the UK and Europe, and was the recipient of the Observer Hodge Award in 2006, and the East International Award in 2009.


Demitrios Kargotis

Demitrios graduated in Design Products from the Royal College of Art in 2008.

Working in multiple mediums, his work is exhibited internationally, most recently in Helsinki, Istanbul, Tokyo, Linz, Zurich and London.

Dr Ole Hagen

An artist working in film installation, photography and performance, Dr Ole Hagen won the prestigious Art Photography Prize in 2014. His recent work, ‘I Got Life,’ has been shown at LUPAS, and ‘Masquerade: Be Another’ at the Stephen Lawrence Gallery in London.

Dr James Hellings

Dr James Hellings studied painting and printmaking before teaching the history and theory of modern and contemporary art. He is currently researching the work of Theodor W. Adorno, and recently published a book on Adorno’s Aesthetic Theory. 


Mona Casey

Mona Casey co-ordinates Slice, which circulates work through exhibitions, publications and online.

She is also co-director of The Event, a bi-annual presentation of artist-led galleries and projects in Birmingham.

We maintain excellent links with major city centre corporations and are members of the Colmore Row Business District. The School works with Savills, Capsticks, Associated Architects and Deutschse Bank, which also sponsors an annual award of £10,000 to support career development.

Research

Our Centre for Fine Art Research is rated 5th in the UK, and is in the top 20 internationally

Our PhD students work closely on projects with organisations such as the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
