If you know the time of your ceremony, you can take a look at the timings for your special day.

Registration	8 - 9.15am	ICC – Hall 3 Mezzanine (up the escalators/stairs)	Collect your ticket from our registration desk. Do not lose this ticket – you must keep it with you at all times and it is required for you to cross the stage. All personal belongings/valuables/coats/bags should be given to one of your guests or put in the ICC cloakroom (£1 charge). Belongings cannot be taken to your graduate seat.
Gowning and photography	8 - 9.15am	ICC – Hall 3	Collect your pre-booked gown/hat/hood for ceremony. Have your photos taken as part of pre-booked photography packages (if already purchased). Some photography packages can be purchased on the day but may be charged at a premium rate.
Ticket collection	8 - 9.15am	Symphony Hall Box Office	If you are collecting guest tickets on the day of the ceremony please make your way to the Symphony Hall Box Office (the majority of guests should have had their tickets emailed or posted to them prior to the event).
Refreshments	8 - 9.15am	ICC – Hall 9 and Hall 10	Graduates and guests are welcome to enjoy complimentary tea/coffee/biscuits available in Hall 9. All refreshments are to be taken through to Hall 10 next door where seating and tables are available.
Graduates: Take your seats	9.30am	Symphony Hall – Stalls Entrance Doors on lower level	Graduates are seated in the stalls area of the Hall as per the seat/row number on the ticket provided at the registration desk. Music will be provided by the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Brass Band.
Guests: Take your seats	9.30am	Symphony Hall – upper levels	Guests are usually seated on the upper levels of the Symphony Hall and should make their way to the appropriate entrance doors. Guests who have pre-booked accessible seating may be on lower levels/near the stalls area – please make your way to the appropriate entrance. There will be Symphony Hall ushers available if you require any assistance in locating your seat/getting to the correct floor/using an elevator. Music will be provided by the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Brass Band.
Everyone seated	9.45am	Symphony Hall	Graduates and/or guests will not be permitted to enter the auditorium after this time. The ceremony will start promptly.
Ceremony Begins	10am	Symphony Hall	Academic and Vice Chancellor Procession takes place to officially open each ceremony. All Academic and Vice Chancellor procession individuals are seated on stage.
Your ceremony	10 - 11.30am	Symphony Hall	Speeches A number of speeches will be made throughout your ceremony – at the beginning to open the ceremony, middle* and the end to close the ceremony. Some ceremonies will not have a speech in the middle if there is no Honorary Doctorate Award. Crossing the stage Graduates will be guided from their seats to cross the stage. Graduates on the front row will be invited onto stage from their seat. Graduates in other rows will be invited onto stage via the backstage corridor – BCU ushers will direct you when it is your turn to queue up/cross the stage. Graduates are invited to shake hands with the Chancellor/Vice Chancellor/Chairman (depending on who is presenting the ceremony). If you are not comfortable with shaking hands, please put your hands behind your back as you cross the stage. The person presenting the ceremony will doff their cap to you (tilt their cap in acknowledgement of your award). Graduates will be guided to a seat in the hall after walking across the stage. This seat will likely be different to the seat you were originally allocated. Note: Graduates are not provided with a certificate/award on stage at these events.
Ceremony ends	11.30am	Symphony Hall	Academic and Vice Chancellor’s processions will leave the stage and auditorium. Graduates are then permitted to leave the auditorium, followed by guests on all levels.
Post-ceremony reception	11.30am - 12.15pm	Symphony Hall – Foyer Areas	Live music will be provided by a Royal Birmingham Conservatoire ensemble. Bars will be open for graduate and guests to purchase beverages. Refreshments will be available.
Returning gowns	11.30am - 12.30pm	Symphony Hall – Ground Floor Foyer area	Gown drop containers will be available for graduates to return their gowns/hats/hoods. All hired gowns/hats/hoods must be returned by the end of each event.
End of the event	12.30pm	Exit via Symphony Hall Ground Floor Foyer area	You will be politely asked to vacate the venue by these times to allow preparations to take place for the next ceremony/day of celebrations.

Guests who have pre-booked accessible seating may be on lower levels/near the stalls area – please make your way to the appropriate entrance. There will be Symphony Hall ushers available if you require any assistance in locating your seat/getting to the correct floor/using an elevator. Music will be provided by the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Brass Band.
Everyone seated	5.45pm	Symphony Hall	Graduates and/or guests will not be permitted to enter the auditorium after this time. The ceremony will start promptly.
Ceremony Begins	6pm	Symphony Hall	Academic and Vice Chancellor Procession takes place to officially open each ceremony. All Academic and Vice Chancellor procession individuals are seated on stage.
Your ceremony	6 - 7.30pm	Symphony Hall	Speeches A number of speeches will be made throughout your ceremony – at the beginning to open the ceremony, middle* and the end to close the ceremony. Some ceremonies will not have a speech in the middle if there is no Honorary Doctorate Award. Crossing the stage Graduates will be guided from their seats to cross the stage. Graduates on the front row will be invited onto stage from their seat. Graduates in other rows will be invited onto stage via the backstage corridor – BCU ushers will direct you when it is your turn to queue up/cross the stage. Graduates are invited to shake hands with the Chancellor/Vice Chancellor/Chairman (depending on who is presenting the ceremony). If you are not comfortable with shaking hands, please put your hands behind your back as you cross the stage. The person presenting the ceremony will doff their cap to you (tilt their cap in acknowledgement of your award). Graduates will be guided to a seat in the hall after walking across the stage. This seat will likely be different to the seat you were originally allocated. Note: Graduates are not provided with a certificate/award on stage at these events.
Ceremony ends	7.30pm	Symphony Hall	Academic and Vice Chancellor’s processions will leave the stage and auditorium. Graduates are then permitted to leave the auditorium, followed by guests on all levels.
Post-ceremony reception	7.30 - 8.15pm	Symphony Hall – Foyer Areas	Live music will be provided by a Royal Birmingham Conservatoire ensemble. Bars will be open for graduate and guests to purchase beverages. Refreshments will be available.
Returning gowns	7.30 - 8.30pm	Symphony Hall – Ground Floor Foyer area	Gown drop containers will be available for graduates to return their gowns/hats/hoods. All hired gowns/hats/hoods must be returned by the end of each event.
End of the event	8.30pm	Exit via Symphony Hall Ground Floor Foyer area	You will be politely asked to vacate the venue by these times to allow preparations to take place for the next ceremony/day of celebrations.
