If you study this course part-time or via distance learning, you will be charged on a pro-rata basis. This means your fee will be calculated per module.
There are no compulsory additional costs or charges associated with studying on this course. While you may choose to purchase personal copies of text books, all our key text books are available from our library or online (subject to normal library loan and online access arrangements).

Introduction to Psychology
This module explores the origins, developments and refinements in the study of modern-day psychology, dating back to early philosophy. The module will ensure students will see how modern-day psychology has evolved, by viewing the scientific, cultural and social movements, and influences, that were happening alongside the development of this new discipline.
Psychology and Research Skills
The module will also explore many of the methods involved in planning and executing research within psychology, such as identifying an appropriate research question, reviewing existing literature, research planning, data collection methods and ethical considerations. The module will also introduce different types of psychological research.
Introduction to Research Methods and Statistics
The module provides a conceptual understanding reporting research, the core statistical principals and tests. It provides hands-on experience of conducting an experiment, using statistical software for carrying out analyses and writing up the experiment in practical workshops. This module will equip you with the necessary knowledge and skills required to prepare them for future work, as well as identifying how the skills and knowledge gained during this module are relevant to future modules that cover GBC competencies.
This module will develop your skills in planning, evaluation and problem solving, introducing you to the basic concepts and theories used by marketing practitioners. You will be examining how marketing tools are used in a range of organisations including entrepreneurial start-ups, SMEs, business-to-business and not-for-profit contexts.
This module makes a significant contribution to the programme philosophy by providing the knowledge and understanding of all the key concepts upon which consumer behaviour is built. The module establishes a sound foundation on which to base future study on the programme, as it delivers the theoretical underpinning necessary for successful marketing focusing on the centre of the business – the consumer, in line with the programme aims and learning outcomes.

Here, you will continue to develop the key transferrable skills from your first year, while understanding the cognitive and neural theories across a range of areas. You will apply advanced psychological theory and methodology to real research questions.
Quantitative Research Methods and Analysis
You will design, construct, and carry out a small-scale qualitative research project, looking qualitative methodologies and underlying rationales.
Qualitative Research Methods and Analyses
This provides you with a grounding in the use of qualitative research methods and analysis techniques commonly used in psychology.
Service Experience Design
Service Experience Design will not only teach you to understand and develop skills that will enable you to develop, improve and manage existing service propositions, but will also equip you with the fundamentals of how to create new, unique and exciting service experiences. You will learn how to do service design while the theoretical field of services marketing provides techniques and frameworks to optimise the customer experience journey.
The following are examples of optional modules, all of which are worth 20 credits each:
Applied Social Psychology
You will demonstrate knowledge and appraise major concepts, theoretical perspectives and empirical findings in social psychology.
In this module, you will demonstrate a critical understanding of the different research methods within lifespan development, with an ability to create argued conclusions.
You will prepare solutions for international marketing problems through the application of knowledge and understanding of relevant theory and practices.
Integrative Psychology Project Based Module
In this module, you will seek out research sources to produce an in-depth dissertation that answers your own identified research question or knowledge gap, making a contribution to the existing literature within a chosen topic area. This will be facilitated through critical evaluation of the sources you have selected and used.

The assessment methods used on the programme encourage you to develop real-world skills that employers are looking for.
For example, as part of a core module at Level 6, you will be required to design and create an intellectual product based on your knowledge and understanding of the different phenomenon, research and intervention methods. Furthermore, you’ll be asked to describe your learning journey, justify your choice and reflect on the process of the product development.
Your first year will see you study the six core subject areas of psychology, in addition to marketing practice. You will develop psychological literacy skills, such as writing and presenting, and gain key transferrable skills. You will use our Virtual Learning Environment to access online, video-based content, as well as being assessed through more traditional formats, such as essays and exams.
Your second year, by contrast, focuses more on professional practice, looking at biological and cognitive psychology to highlight the relationship between brain function and thought processing. Marketing course content will focus on the application of knowledge in an operational context, as well as the implementation of marketing research and strategy.
In your final year, you will examine psychology and marketing at a more advanced level, culminating in a dissertation project, which combines all elements of the degree in order to evaluate and answer a specific area of the subject.
Examples of assessments include essays, research proposals, presentations, online forums and debates.
Previous trips have included visiting the Science Museum in London, getting to see some of the museum’s acclaimed science exhibitions, and learning first-hand key processes and information.

This course is based at our City Centre Campus – and specifically The Curzon Building, alongside other social sciences, law, business and English students.
The £63m building offers students a unique social learning space, including a dedicated student hub incorporating student support services, in the heart of Birmingham’s Eastside development.
Realistic, simulated environments include two mock court rooms, a Magistrates' and Crown Court, and an interviewing suite. We’re also exploring the use of virtual environments as a way to develop case study analysis.
For those studying on the BA (Hons) Criminology, Policing and Investigation pathway, you’ll experience simulations of police interviewing environments for both suspects and witnesses, with access to tape recording and video playback analysis.
Crime investigation files are prepared using computer-based technology, and the crime data analysis requirements of the degree are supported by appropriate statistical and analytical software.
Psychology students can look forward to using state-of-the-art equipment as well, including the latest in eye-tracking software, and our new EEG machine, all geared towards giving you true hands-on experience with tools you’ll be using in your later career.
Dr Panagiotis Rentzelas’ teaching experience of health psychology stems from his long-term interest in applying quantitative social psychology research into health-related policy making. He is especially interested in investigating the role of culture on the efficiency of a psychological intervention.
