Dr. McDonald a Chartered Psychologist and Lecturer in Applied Psychology at Birmingham City University. Prior to Birmingham City University, Emma held a teaching post in psychology at Oxford Brookes University, where the majority of her time was spent teaching, and supporting research methods and statistics on a number of modules.

Before her post at Oxford Brookes University, Emma worked as a Scientific Officer at the University of Plymouth's School of Psychology. She conducted her PhD on Memory and Dyslexia at the School of Psychology, Cardiff University.

Before starting her PhD, Dr. McDonald lectured on the psychology modules of the Welfare Studies Diploma alongside GCSE Psychology at Coleg Morgannwg. She completed her BSc in Psychology at the University of Plymouth in 2003, where she investigated dyslexia and syllogistic reasoning strategies.
