Postgraduate students from Birmingham City University are to host a charity fashion show next week, with student designs promoting female empowerment and highlighting fashion addictions.
The ‘Vision for the Future’ event takes place at the University’s Parkside Building at 6pm on Wednesday 13 July, with tickets costing £5 and all funds raised being donated to Cancer Research UK.
Fashion Design student Fengran Wei has based her project on the conflict of feelings and desires that consumers face when catwalk designs swiftly become fashion trends.
“Fast fashion makes us produce large amounts of dopamine and just like fast food does, we can find it hard to resist making purchases”, said Fengran.
Hongru Li Matthew’s collection promotes female empowerment and is inspired by singer-songwriter Annie Lennox.
“I’ve chosen Sweet Dreams by the Eurythmics for my catwalk song and I want women who wear my collection to feel confident and not care what others might say about them”, he said.
MA Fashion Design lecturer, Rebecca Russell-Turner, added: “The event promises to be full of colour, texture and new ideas that look to the future.”
