Education, Law and Social Sciences

The Faculty of Education, Law and Social Sciences specialises in the fields of education and teacher training, law and legal studies, criminology, human rights, sociology, psychology, policy and housing studies. With strong teaching, research and consultancy in these areas we seek to make links with both local and wider communities, particularly through our work with schools, children's agencies, the criminal justice, governmental, legal and housing professions.

The Faculty has over 190 academic and support staff and has three main divisions:

Located in modern purpose-built accommodation on the main City North campus we provide a lively, supportive and challenging learning environment for our students and clients, helping them to pursue personal and professional development, intellectual interests and career aspirations.

With excellent learning facilities, flexible course design and a team of committed and experienced academic staff we have established a reputation as a provider of high quality courses. Many of our programmes offer vocational and social relevance as well as academic challenge to a wide cross-section of students from diverse backgrounds. In addition, we support the provision of lifelong learning through the delivery of short courses and seminars for individuals and larger bespoke groups.

Resources for education and teacher training students include interactive whiteboards, a replica school gym, a drama studio, music practice rooms, art and design studios and a dedicated design and technology suite. For Law students we have our own mock courtroom equipped with audio-visual facilities, an active student-led Mooting Society and a Legal Advice and Representation Unit. All students have access to our newly refurbished dedicated learning resource centres and to high quality teaching and computer rooms.

In addition to the main University Open Days  we hold a number of subject led Visit Days which are designed for you to come and experience the Faculty for yourself. We encourage you to meet with tutors and existing students and see our facilities and resources firsthand. If you are unable to attend one of our visit days, however we'll do our best to provide you with a personal tour.

Whether you are interested in studying with us, working with us, or collaborating on a project, we will ensure that the time you spend with us will be rewarding.
