Offer holders: Organising the Construction Process and Evaluating Buildability
In this shared activity, Quantity Surveying and Construction Management offer holders will work collaboratively on a practical, case study-based exercise centred on assessing buildability from a construction management perspective using Building Information Models (BIM) of a realistic construction project.
This activity emphasises the site operational management responsibilities of construction managers while introducing the cost considerations that quantity surveyors must address.
This is a great opportunity to experience life as a BCU student, and see the teaching styles and practical learning approaches embedded throughout the course.
Offer holders: Integrating Cost Management and Logistical Challenges
The second shared activity builds upon the first, delving deeper into the logistical challenges and cost management aspects facing construction managers and quantity surveyors.
Utilising BIM models, participants will collaboratively explore strategies for overcoming site-specific constraints, optimising resource allocation, and balancing budgetary limitations.
This immersive case study provides a holistic perspective, fostering an appreciation of the interdependencies between construction management and quantity surveying roles, while reinforcing the practical, hands-on learning that defines the BCU educational experience.

Offer holders: Creating value in real estate
During the first session of the day, you will become a Real Estate student and make decisions on how to develop some land on the outskirts of a town for a fictional client.
The group will need to decide which of two plots of land they think will have most development potential, and then which land use they would like to go onto the plot. Staff will give the students feedback on whether they feel the decisions are realistic and viable.
For the second activity, you will be tasked with developing your chosen site by putting in roads, buildings and open space and avoiding protected trees! You will need to come up with a land value and make a bid for the site against other teams.
