Introduction

This is one of the largest and most popular courses of its kind in the UK. You’ll benefit from a unified programme working alongside textile, fashion and surface designers, while pursuing self-directed studies in the discipline of your choice. The course has developed its reputation through word of mouth, longevity and the successes of its alumni and staff. Over 20 years, strong regional, national and international links have been forged and the course now benefits from a multicultural environment with students typically coming from India, Pakistan, China, Thailand and Taiwan as well as from all over Europe.

Employment Opportunities

Career paths of graduates include freelance and designer/maker practices; and designers, buyers, managers in industry or in other related and service industries, including education and the fashion media. A significant number of graduates have started their own companies and labels, and many pursue mixed employment.

Structure

Course Structure

Your learning will be based around studio and workshop practice, with personal programmes of study and joint lecture and seminar programmes. Art, craft and design interpretations of the disciplines are all supported and our highly experienced course team recognise the importance of having a personal and distinctive approach to your work and study. There are also ample opportunities to collaborate, exchange ideas and broaden your perspective.

Situated within the School of Fashion and Textiles, there is a wide range of conventional and CAD facilities available including digital print, digital Jaquard and a Gerber fashion CAD suite. There are also specialist facilities available in glass and ceramics.

To support your learning you are encouraged to develop links appropriate to your studies, these have previously included DuPont, Emap, Sandersons and Nicole Farhi.
