Theo Inglis joined Birmingham City University in 2024 as a full-time lecturer on the BA Graphic Design course. He studied Graphic Design at Norwich University of the Arts, and completed an MA in Critical Writing in Art & Design at the Royal College of Art.

Theo has over ten years of professional design experience, including three years working at a branding and packaging design agency in London, and most recently as Senior Designer for Granta Magazine, one of the world’s leading literary publications. Working as an independent freelance designer since 2015, Theo has focused on typographically-driven design –particularly book design – for publishers, magazines, universities, cultural organisations and charities.

Alongside work as a practicing designer, Theo also writes about graphic design, for a wide variety of art and design magazines and websites. His main interests are design history and criticism. He is the author of two books; Mid-Century Modern Graphic Design (Batsford, 2019) and The Graphic Design Bible (Ilex Press, 2023). From 2016-18 he was a regular freelance reporter working for Grafik and Monotype.
