Working with the Director of Sport and Sport Officers my role is focused on working closely with colleagues and students in order to arrange sporting activities and workshops aimed to help increase knowledge and understanding of the importance of mental health and wellbeing.

Since starting this role a timetable of events has been introduced which include walking groups, Pilates, and Badminton. There is intention to continuously review and extend the portfolio of activities at the City South and City Centre campuses in order to provide staff and students the opportunity to develop new skills and improve their overall wellbeing. Working in line with the University’s wellbeing agenda I liaise with industry specialists to ensure our knowledge is in line with the nationwide vision for the improvement of mental health and wellbeing amongst staff and students.

Signing up to the Sport and Recreation Charter as an institution I am aim to create a vibrant atmosphere within the institution through the removal of stigma and stereotype currently associated with mental ill-health.

Increasing both knowledge and understanding of mental health is vital and as such I am actively working on medium to large scale events with the intention to increase awareness and understanding.
