Professor Chris Edger, Senior Academic at Birmingham City University, in conjunction with Propelinfo (the UK's leading food service e-daily news magazine), successfully led a one day Masterclass in London on 9 January. The event was attended by over 130 food service professionals and suppliers from companies such as SSP, Prezzo, TGIs, Spirit, Mitchells and Butlers and Loungers.
Professor Edger (the author of three books on high performance retail multiple leadership), described by the organisers as the leading 'multi-site' expert in the UK, was supported by senior industry figures such as Adam Fowle (CEO Tesco Family Dining and Chairman Giraffe) and Andrew Emmerson (Development Director Domino Pizza). During the day he showcased contemporary research highlighting 'the origins of retail success', 'the key practices of effective multi-site managers' and 'the essential personal characteristics of high performance multi-site operators'.
Attendees described the day as 'insightful' and 'a banquet of ideas'. Mike Fisher, Head of Retail Marketing of Mathew Clark – a leading supplier to the industry said: "I really did take some invaluable information away from the Masterclass. As an ex-site, Multi-Site Manager and Operations Director it was fascinating to reflect on previous roles and to draw certain parallels with the requirements of our Regional Sales Managers in a business such as Mathew Clark."
