Junior STEAM Academy asks young people to dream up solutions to the world’s biggest problems. Working across subjects, they encourage children to problem solve, follow their curiosity, to think creatively and work collaboratively.

Junior Steam academy teamed up with Little Inventors for their inaugural programme. They set the young people of Greater Birmingham the challenge to come up with creative and innovative inventions to transform how we harness and use energy.

Year 5 pupils from Hillstone Primary School in Shard End each participated in this challenge, visiting the STEAMhouse facility to design and prototype their unique and brilliant concepts. Two of these ideas were specially selected to be developed into real-life inventions. These inventions are on display at Parkside Gallery, alongside the students working models from the STEAMhouse sessions.

Featuring contributions from schools all across the Midlands, this exhibition showcases the creative talent and innovative thinking of local young people.

The Junior STEAM Academy was developed in order to promote the STEAM learning ethos within primary education. It offers teachers and pupils the opportunity to learn about interdisciplinary design thinking and experiment with collaborative making.
