Textile Design - BA (Hons)
Give us a brief overview of your project
A textile collection portraying an emotional response to the Black Country, reflecting its cultural, social, and economic influence on the industrial lifestyle. The collection includes printed, and 3D constructed textiles by combining soft and dense materials like metal. It also Illustrate a personal expression by envisioning the dark and raw atmosphere of the Black Country.
Why did you choose this concept?
I chose this as my project because it is personal to me and my heritage, being a person from the Black Country and my family's connection to the region's industrial significance. The use of metal throughout my collection is the connection to the Black Country and the hidden beauty in the metal and the dark atmosphere. The project resembles the generational passing of knowledge with combining my father's skills in forging and welding with my textile's skills.
What processes have you been using?
I have been using sublimation print, screen printing and weaving on to metal frame I have also been working with metal like mild steel, wire wool and copper wire with welding application.
What do you hope to achieve with your project?
Representation of the Black Country through putting together exhibitions to showcase the collections and continue to combine metal and textiles.
How has your course helped you to prepare for working on your project?
I have gained the knowledge of textile processes and understand how to adapt them to different surfaces and opened my eyes to a variety of textures and creating links between my work. The course has also helped me with understanding the industry and where I might fit in it.
