An exhibition by Jimmy Turrell & Neasden Control Centre
Echo Chamber marks the first collaboration between graphic artists Jimmy Turrell and Neasden Control Centre, debuting at Birmingham Design Festival 2025.
Rooted in their shared experiences growing up in working-class, northern British towns, the exhibition explores the cultural impact of youth, music and creativity — from the euphoric pulse of house and rave to the attitude and aesthetics of the Madchester era. It’s a celebration of making as a form of escape, resistance and connection.
Through large-scale printed fabric works and collaged panels, the artists bring together fine art, design and music culture in a striking, physical conversation.
The exhibition runs alongside their hands-on workshop, titled Practice is Play, which invites participants to embrace experimentation, looseness and intuition in their own creative process — echoing the spirit and methods that shaped the work on display.
A selection of original collaborative pieces is also available to purchase throughout the festival.
