Two alumni from Birmingham City University (BCU) have contributed to an iconic monument honouring the Windrush generation.

A Birmingham City University (BCU) alumnus has been awarded Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for Services to Further Education by Princess Anne.

A Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (RBC) alumnus has recently been nominated for a WhatsOnStage Award for Best Studio Production for Be More Chill at the Old Joint Stock.

BCU alumna Arti Shah is bringing Paddington Bear to life on London’s West End as the on-stage performer in Paddington: The Musical. Arti, who graduated with a BA (Hons) Business Studies for Property in 1999, is now an actress and motivational speaker.

A BCU alumna who set up her own business has had her designs nominated for Gift of the Year. Victoria Eggs, who graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 2005, is the Founder and CEO of Victoria Eggs, a British gift and homeware company.

A Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (RBC) alumnus has won the Celebrating Culture and Heritage Award at the Northamptonshire Community Foundation Awards for A Home for Harmony, a community-focused musical play for young children. Tristan Jackson-Pate, who graduated from RBC with a BA (Hons) in Acting in 2010, joined People’s Theatre Collective initially as an actor and became Artistic Director in 2015, a role he continues to hold.

Graduate and marketing entrepreneur Olivia Mae Hanlon has been named Birmingham City University’s Alumna of the Year. Olivia, who graduated with a degree in Psychology and Criminology in 2019, is the founder and CEO of Girls in Marketing, a community-led platform she launched shortly after university.

A Product and Furniture Design graduate has won the prestigious Design Award at the New Furniture Makers Exhibition. Reuben Porter, who graduated from BCU in 2025, secured first place in the Young Furniture Makers Design Category of the New Furniture Maker Awards for his contemporary reinterpretation of the classic machinist chair, Archetype – M.
