Ghanaian Professor returns to Birmingham School of Art

Birmingham City University was delighted to host Professor Alhaj Yakubu Seidu Peligah this week, on his first return to the city in 25 years since graduating. Professor Peligah toured the University’s City Centre Campus for the first time, and was greeted at Birmingham School of Art by Professor Jonathan Harris, Head of School.

Professor Peligah obtained a doctorate in Art Therapy at Birmingham School of Art in 1994. After graduating, he returned to Ghana to continue his academic career at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, eventually becoming Head of Art Education and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Art in 2006.

Professor Peligah later took up appointment as Rector of the Tamale Polytechnic, now Tamale Technical University. In 2012 he was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Creative Arts and Technology at the Kumasi Polytechnic, now Kumasi Technical University, before retiring in 2016.

Professor Jonathan Harris, Head of Birmingham School of Art, said: “It was a pleasure to host Professor Peligah: our alumni are the best testament to the work and reputation of the School over many decades.”
