Birmingham graduate wins Young Jewellery Designer of the Year award

A graduate from Birmingham City University’s School of Jewellery is celebrating after winning Professional Jeweller’s Young Jewellery Designer of the Year prize.

The leading UK jewellery news outlet awarded 27 year-old Sophie Lomax with the accolade after impressing judges with her designs, including a Valentine’s range for 77 Diamonds which quickly became one of the company’s most popular collections.

Sophie graduated from Birmingham City University’s School of Jewellery in 2012, receiving a first class honours degree in Jewellery and Silversmithing – Design for Industry.

“It was an incredible feeling to receive the award after the competition was so fierce”, said Sophie, who hails from Oxford.

In the future Sophie looks forward to creating more thought-provoking collections with 77 Diamonds.

“I want us to be able to create jewellery that can be future heirlooms and is trend-led, with design and craftsmanship as the key values”, added Sophie.
