Develop your academic potential
We help you achieve your personal goals, make the most of your skills, and realise your full potential while at University.
How we can help you
The Personal Development Department (PDD) is staffed by academic support staff who understand your concerns and will answer your questions by email, over the phone or face-to-face.
Academic Skills Development
We offer advice and guidance by helping you to develop academic skills
This support will help you develop across the two broad areas of academic writing and numeracy applied to practice. This support can be workshops and small group or individual tutorials, related to academic writing, critical analysis, literature searching skills, referencing and numeracy.
We are happy to discuss any aspects of your work that are causing you concern and to point you in the right direction.
There is also English language support if your first language is not English.
Personal development for life-long learning
We have a dedicated 'Professional Navigator' who can help you to develop a Personal Development Learning Plan as part of your Continuous Professional Development.
This can help you meet your individual academic development needs with a range of modules and short programmes.
The department also offers a short course: AP(E)L Academic Writing Skills and a variety of stand-alone modules.
- Courses and modules available about your level of study and future career in the health and social care professions.
