This month has been a success for for Nursing students. Read on to hear about how the faculty will be celebrating World Social Work Day, acknowledging 50 years of nursing for one of our dedicated academics, Nursing Apprenticeship students graduating, and the exciting revealing of Student Nursing Times nominations.

Celebrating RNDA graduations

On 6th March, HELS held an event to celebrate the milestone of our first cohort of Registered Nurse Degree Apprentices (RNDA) graduations. As always, it’s an exciting and proud moment for our staff and students and reflects our great sense of community at the School of Nursing and Midwifery. 

World Social Work Day

The faculty of Health, Education, and Life Sciences celebrates World Social Work Day on March 21st. This global celebration recognises the hard work and diligence of social workers, with this year’s theme being “Respecting diversity through joint social action”, according to the British Association of Social Workers. There will be adisplay of books and posters from the International Federation of Social Workers in the atrium of our Seacole building, plus cake!

Student Nursing Times nominees announced

March proves a time of excitement and celebration when the annual Student Nursing Times Awards list of nominees comes around. The London-based event ceremony recognises the talent and fantastic contributions of student nurses. Winners will be announced in April, but for now, let’s honour our terrific nominees:

  • Ann Margaret Hopton - Most Inspirational Student Nurse of the Year

  • Eve Whitehead - Most Inspirational Student Nurse of the Year

  • Joachim Chikadza - Student Innovation in Practice

  • Eve Whitehead - Student Midwife of the Year

  • Ann Margaret Hopton - Student Nurse of the Year: Adult
