  • Diabetes Basics

    17 September, 12-1pm

    Speaker: Martha Stewart 

    Description: Learn the basics of diabetes including symptoms, diagnosis and the different types of diabetes. After this session you will be able to identify the signs and symptoms and management of Hypoglycaemia and understand sick-day management.

  • Systematic Review Structure and Contents

    23 September, 12-1pm

    Speaker: Kal Alnababtah

    Description: After this session you will be able to understand and define what systematic review is and differentiate it from other types of literature reviews; recognise the key components/sections of a systematic review (e.g. research question, strategy, data extraction); interpret the purpose and importance of each section in a systematic review; evaluate the quality of a basic systematic review based on its structure and adherence to standard methodology (e.g. PRISMA guidelines).

  • Early rehabilitation following critical illness

    24 September, 12-1pm

    Speaker: Chris Carter

    Description: After this session you will be able to describe the key physical, cognitive and psychological challenges that patients may face after critical illness; identify the principles of early and ongoing rehabilitation in hospital and community settings; recognise the role of the multidisciplinary team in supporting recovery; reflect on your own practice to identify possible changes to improve patient outcomes after critical illness.

  • Moving from an idea to a focused research question

    1 October, 12-1pm

    Speaker: Dr Debra Evans

    Description: It is key to understand EBP processes to be an evidence-based practitioner. These processes include being able to identify gaps in knowledge and construct quantitative and qualitative research questions pertinent to what you need to know. Subsequent steps involve being able to retrieve, appraise, synthesize and implement appropriate evidence that answers such questions. By the end of this session, you will be better equipped to deal with the first process.

Chris Carter

Chris is a Senior Lecturer, an experienced critical care nurse and leader and during the first wave of the Covid-19 was seconded as Matron for Critical Care in a London Hospital.

Dr Debra Evans

Dr Debra Evans has been a lecturer at BCU for 28 years. She trained as a Registered Nurse (RGN), has a quantitative scientific background from studying a PhD and degree in Physiology.

Kal Alnababtah

Kal teaches on the adult nursing programme as is the module leader for Professional Values and Evidence Based Practice and Policy and Politics in nursing which students study in the final year.

Martha Stewart
