Construction Project Management - MSc
Nirali decided to come back to university to boost her career aspects. Finding a balance between working full time, being a Mum and studying part time was difficult but with support from her lecturers and her admirable driven personality, Nirali now feels confident in taking the next big step in her career.
“After completing my degree in HR, I began working for property construction company, Gleeds. I was really enjoying working within the construction industry but wanted to pursue further studies, to expand my career options. My employer recommended the MSc Construction Project Management course at Birmingham City University.
I have been very fortunate with all of my lecturers and tutors on this course. They have been supportive throughout my journey and still continue to be. I dedicate my success to my teachers, who have also taught me to face the challenges of life with a smile.
One thing that has grown with me throughout my course is my confidence. My verbal and written communication has improved massively, especially as English is not my first language. Both my ability to communicate and negotiate has improved, due to the development of new knowledge and skills which I have learnt on the course. This course has allowed me to learn a number of management techniques, such as maintaining professionalism and communicating effectively whether this is with a client or colleagues.
Finding a balance between work, home and study was something I found challenging. I have a very busy schedule during the week as I work full time and study part time as well as having two children. This has often resulted in me completing my university work late at night or early mornings. Whenever I have had a query the lecturers have always ensured that they respond in 24 hours, this has made my work life balance easier and I am able to prioritise all of my commitments.
Initially I chose this course to improve my career aspects, but it has provided me with more than that. I have enhanced my skills, knowledge and am very proud to have become a confident individual. I have always been a motivated and driven individual and I feel this course will help me to take the next step in my career to Chartership in APM (Association for project management). This means I can gain ChPP status and inclusion on the Register of Chartered Project Professionals.
When I have completed my course, I hope to get a promotion into a Project Management role. This role will enhance my knowledge about how the construction industry operates and I will further expand my skills in a range of project management techniques.
To me, ‘I AM BCU’ means a bright future and growth in confidence.”
